** Similarities between Bengali (Bangla) and Persian (Farsi) ** In this edition, we compare Persian and Bengali. Both languages are Indo-European. Bengali is predominantly spoken in the Indian subcontinent, while Persian is primarily spoken in Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan as well as some other regions which historically were Persianate societies and considered part of Greater Iran. Bengali is the national and official language of Bangladesh, and the official language of the states of West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India. Persian (Farsi) has influenced Bengali as it was the state language and the language of the courts in Bengal for several centuries.
