EU leaders meet to discuss migration policies | Money Talks

European stock markets breathed a sigh of relief on Friday after EU leaders finally reached an agreement on migration after marathon talks in Brussels. The euro also enjoyed a much-needed rally, but some traders fear it’ll be short-lived because of the deep divisions that still exist over the politically-charged issue. The deal thrashed-out at the 11th hour seeks to establish a new EU migration strategy, with plans for voluntary processing centres and promises to strengthen Europe’s borders. New Report Says Climate Change Could Force Millions to Move Within Their Countries

(PRESS “CC” ON THE PLAYER FOR CAPTIONS) The worsening impacts of climate change could force over 140 million people to move within their countries by 2050, according to a new World Bank report, Groundswell: Preparing for Internal Climate Migration. It finds that unless urgent climate and development action is taken globally and nationally, Latin America, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa could see tens of millions of people forced to move from increasingly non-viable areas of their countries due to growing problems like water scarcity, crop failure, sea-level rise and storm surges.
