Is Harvard Racist?

Harvard University’s admissions policy is proof that one can remember negative history, write about it in great and vivid detail, and still be doomed to repeat it. In the name of “affirmative action” and “diversity,” Harvard is doing to Asian-American applicants exactly what it once did to Jewish applicants: discriminate. Lee Cheng explains. ‘Heritage Not Hate’: People in Georgia bring back confederate flag after ban imposed

It may be a symbol from a civil war fought long ago, but the Confederate flag still casts a lon shadow over the southern US states. In South Carolina last week it was removed from a pole next to the State House, a move which led to a strong reaction. RT’s Maria Finoshina is travelling through the southern states to see what issues are concerning people there. And on her stop in Georgia, she found a ban on the confederate flag may actually be having the opposite effect to the one intended. RT LIVE Subscribe to RT! Danny Glover, rapper Kazzie talk black inequality, search for success in America

“I come from here, but I don’t feel safe here at all,” rapper Kazzie tells Aleksey Yaroshevsky as he drives through the impoverished areas of Newark, NJ. It’s a stark reality in the lives of many African Americans throughout the US, as the protests and riots in Ferguson showed the world last year. Actors like Danny Glover have seen the desperate effects poverty has had within the African-American community, while Harvard professor Charles Ogletree sees education as a way out for those trapped in impoverishment. Growth, Cities, and Immigration: Crash Course US History #25

In which John Green teaches you about the massive immigration to the United States during the late 19th and early 20th century. Immigrants flocked to the US from all over the world in this time period. Millions of Europeans moved to the US where they drove the growth of cities and manned the rapid industrialization that was taking place. In the western US many, many Chinese immigrants arrived to work on the railroad and in mines. As is often the case in the United States, the people who already lived in the US reacted kind of badly to this flood of immigrants. Some legislators tried to stem the flow of new arrivals, with mixed success. Grover Cleveland vetoed a general ban on immigration, but the leadership at the time did manage to get together to pass and anti-Chinese immigration law. Im

Watch the segment that got Ross Cameron sacked from Sky News Australia

If you are truly concerned about the anti-Chinese racism that is being fanned in Australia, intended to make people susceptible to the disinformation campaign of intelligence agencies and their media machine to demonise China as a threat to world peace, you should be outraged at the firing of Ross Cameron from Sky News. Sky News has removed all traces of this 30 October episode, claiming it was anti-Chinese racism. I’m sharing this because the opposite is true. Whatever you think of Ross Cameron, whose extreme neoliberal views I disagree with, one thing he definitely isn’t is anti-Chinese. In fact, he was the most pro-China voice in the Australian media; arguably the only pro-China voice. This segment is a spirited defence of China – the only attack he made was on Western intelligence agen

Nike Probably Doesn’t Mind If Angry White Dudes Burn Their Shoes (HBO)

Over the Labor Day weekend, some people chose to exercise their rights as Americans to burn their shoes. They uploaded videos and images of themselves destroying their own Nike products to protest Nike’s new campaign, which features the face of Colin Kaepernick and the caption, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” The ad references Kaepernick’s choice to kneel during the pregame national anthem in protest of police treatment of minorities — a protest that, according to multiple polls, most Americans don’t approve of. So why would a company as big as Nike want to sacrifice a big chunk of their customer base for politics? In short, because it’s not politics. It’s business. And Nike is gambling that the people who are angry about the ad won’t aff
