Sexual Exploitation of Young Refugees in Greece

In 2015, Greece found itself on the frontline of the biggest refugee crisis since World War II and caught unprepared to receive record numbers of people. The EU shut its border to Greece in 2016 to prevent refugees from moving further up the continent, leaving 50,000 people trapped there. Among them are up to 3,000 unaccompanied children aged 12 to 17 who have traveled alone from countries like Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and Pakistan. With insufficient accommodation, almost half of the young unaccompanied refugees in Greece have fallen outside of the system, many ending up on the streets where they are exposed to all sorts of dangers, including sexual exploitation and abuse. Focus On Zero Hunger: Syria (Episode 3)

Since 2011, 12 million Syrian women, children and men, equivalent to half of the Syrian population, have been forced to flee their homes. Many have left seeking refuge abroad but others stayed in the war-torn country. In September 2015, WFP stopped providing food assistance to 360,000 Syrian refugees and cut the rations for those inside Syria for a quarter due to funding shortages. The world is in the middle of the most serious refugee crisis since the Second World War. Now is the time to Stand as One: po.st/sao When photojournalist Sam Tarling moved to Beirut seven years ago, Syria was a place to visit for a weekend. It was impossible then to think that a few years later he would be working in deserted cities and informal settlements, documenting the lives of some of the estimated two million Syrians who have fled from the war in their country. He has covered the story almost eighty times since 2011, taking well over fifty thousand photos. Here are a few of them, along with his thoughts about the conflict and his work.

دعمت حكومة اليابان لما يزيد عن العامين برنامج أقليمي لهيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة يعني بالتمكين الاقتصادي للاجئات السوريات والنساء المعيلات في المجتمعات المضيفة. حتي الآن، دعمت هيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة 10 مراكز تدريبية ومجتمعية في مخيمات اللاجئين وفي المجتمعات المضيفة في الأردن، لبنان، العراق ومصر واستفاد ما يقرب من 29500 أسرة من المشروع.
